After turning 45 I noticed it became difficult to read. Why?
As we age, the lens inside our eye loses its flexibility, which makes it more difficult to focus on objects that are close. This condition is called presbyopia, and it is a normal aging change inside the eye. Early signs of presbyopia include holding reading materials farther and farther away, until one’s arms do not seem long enough.
Usually presbyopia is treated with reading glasses, bifocals, trifocals, progressives, or contact lenses.
What should I consider before I get fitted for new eyeglasses?
Eyeglasses fulfill two functions, to make you see as clearly as possible, and a fashion accessory to make you look good. At Annapolis Opticians we make you see as clearly as possible by using the best technology available for lenses, we have a huge selection of quality, fashionable frames, and the experienced personnel to assist you.
Does insurance pay for eyeglasses or exams?
Some insurance plans do pay something towards the cost, Annapolis Opticians can use these plans. Other plans have a network of providers who have agreed to provide service at a reduced fee, we do not participate with these because reduced fee would mean reduced quality of service.
How do I know what frame fits my face shape best?
There used to be rules on this subject, but they don’t work anymore. Our stylists are experienced in helping you to select a frame that will look stunning on you.
How long should I wear my glasses before I consider a new pair?
When you feel like having a new look is the best guideline, everyone should have at least two pairs in case of loss or breakage anyway.
What’s the best way to clean my eyeglasses?
Wash them with dish soap! Yes, that’s right, every few days hold them under cold or warm running water, then rub them between your finger and thumb with dish soap, rinse thoroughly, then gently wipe dry with a clean paper towel. A paper towel will not scratch them, dirt will, hence the washing and rinsing.
What are progressive lenses?
Sometimes called “invisible bifocals”, progressive lenses are the modern replacement for bifocals and trifocals. As you look straight ahead you have long distance vision, and as you turn your eyes downward the lenses have more and more magnifying power, until the bottom portion is for up close vision.
How do I know I need an eye exam?
Everyone should have a complete eye exam on a regular basis, but especially if clear vision has changed to blurred, or if you have started to get headaches. If these symptoms come on suddenly, it is an emergency, if it is after office hours, go to the emergency room.
Why should I come to Annapolis Opticians and not use a less expensive optician at a big box store?
Annapolis Opticians is committed to providing the best possible care for your vision. We do not have discounts, nor do we participate with vision plans that require us to give discounts. We do not believe that it is possible to give discounts and maintain quality. Also, it is basically unfair to charge different prices for the same thing. Of course, it is always possible to make something cheaper, that is why a Kia is cheaper than a Mercedes Benz, but at Annapolis Opticians we believe that your vision deserves the best we can offer.
